The Latest: Louisiana State police investigate boy's death

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The latest in the investigation into the death of a child who was shot by city marshals during a vehicle chase (all times local)

The head of the Louisiana state police says no gun was found inside the vehicle of a man allegedly fleeing city marshals with his 6-year-old son inside his sport utility vehicle. The boy was killed when officers opened fire at the fleeing vehicle.

Col. Mike Edmonson made his comments at a news conference Thursday. He said his investigators have obtained video footage pertaining to the shooting but that it has not been analyzed yet.

Edmonson says four officers were involved in the shooting. Three of the four officers work for the Marksville Police Department and one is an Alexandria city marshal, according to officials. Police were attempting to serve a warrant on Chris Few, who fled in a vehicle with his young son, Jeremy Mardis, who died of gunshot wounds. Few was criticially wounded.

State police in Louisiana are examining forensics and probing two city marshals involved a shooting that left an autistic 6-year-old boy dead and his father seriously wounded.

Louisiana state police were called in to lead the investigation into the Tuesday night shooting in Marksville. A family member of the dead boy called the shooting unwarranted.

The marshals were attempting to serve a warrant to Chris Few when he fled in a vehicle with his 6-year-old son, Jeremy Mardis. Avoyelles Parish Coroner Dr. L.J. Mayeux said Few was critically wounded and Jeremy died of multiple gunshot wounds to his head and chest.
