Thousands attend vigil for victims of San Bernardino shootings

Thousands of people attended a Southern California vigil for the victims of Wednesday’s mass shooting that claimed 14 lives in San Bernardino Thursday night.

The community came together at San Manuel Baseball Stadium to start the healing process and to make sense of what happened.  They entered the stadium somber and with heavy hearts, many of them seeking comfort.

Rhonda Cook, a county employee, said the range of emotions includes state of shock and disbelief.

“There are lives that are completely changed. There are families that are destroyed,” she said.

Lydia Villalaba, another county employee, said her friend lost her husband. “One of our secretaries lost her sister,” she added. “We’re here to support them. Life’s going to go on because we’re not going to let these people terrorize us.

The victims were given a memorial tribute through song as attendants filtered out of the stadium with candles in hand. People said they were comforted by the heavy police presence at the event.
