When it comes to flying, airports across the U.S. have a variety of shops, restaurants, and lounges for travelers to enjoy.  A new study ranked the top airports where fliers can find the best amenities for an enjoyable pre-flight experience.

Dig deeper:

StudyFinds says Travel by Luxe examined sit-down dining, average meal costs, number of shops and luxury lounges, and the availability of private suites to determine the rankings.

By the numbers:

Coming in at No. 1 is Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.  It earned the ranking for having 85 shops and 63 luxury lounges and placed second nationally for sit-down restaurants and an average dinner price of $41.

Los Angeles International came in second place due to its 41 private suites and 46 shopping venues. Orlando International ranks third for being the only airport achieving 100 percent fine dining availability, meaning every qualifying restaurant offers table service.

Chicago O’Hare leads all U.S. airports in private suite availability with 71,  while Tampa International and San Diego International both offer fine dining ratios above 57 percent.

The top 10 also includes Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson for having 17 luxury lounges and 51 private suites, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport with 22 luxury lounges, and Denver International with a high fine dining availability score and 35 shopping venues.

Study methodology

Travel by Luxe researchers examined fine dining percentages, average dinner costs, shopping venues, luxury lounges, and private suites across 30 major U.S. airports. The researchers weighted each of the five factors equally at 20 percent, sourcing data from Google Maps. The study excluded smaller regional airports due to limited amenities that would prevent fair comparisons.
