WATCH: Bei Bei takes wobbly 1st steps
WASHINGTON, D.C. (KTVU and wires) - Smithsonian National Zoo’s newest giant panda cub ‘Bei Bei’ took his first wobbly steps under the watchful eye of his mom. He got a huge cuddle as a reward.
The 2.5 month old cub weighed in last Friday at 9.5 pounds.
The panda’s name ‘Bei Bei’ means "precious treasure" and is pronounced "bay bay." It complements his 2-year-old sister's name, Bao Bao.
The current pair of adult pandas, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, came to the zoo in 2000.
