Windstorm sends debris flying, injuring three

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - A bizarre windstorm sent debris flying in San Francisco, leaving three people injured.

San Francisco fire officials say debris fell from a building at 23rd Street and San Jose Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Two pedestrians were taken to the hospital including an elderly man who was rushed to the hospital with a head inury. On Monday, officials said a worker was also injured but was treated and released at the scene. As is required by law, Cal OSHA investigators are looking into what happened. J.S. Sullivan Construction has no prior OSHA violations, records show.

The injuries occurred next to the construction site of 1188 Valencia, a sleek and pricey new condominium complex in The Mission when the incident occurred. 

According to witnesses, high winds moved through the area and toppled a fence, plywood and a plastic traffic barricade, which apparently came crashing down. 

Video that was taken by a business owner shows an injured woman and a man on the ground next to the collapsed fence and debris apparently covered in blood. 

"It's scary, all of  the liabilities around you," said neighbor Sarah Sitts. "It's sad."
