Woman arrested on suspicion of South SJ bank robberies

A woman accused of committing two bank robberies in South San Jose earlier this week was arrested this afternoon, a police spokesman said.

Yvonne Frances Rowland, 22, of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of carrying out two robberies on Tuesday and Wednesday, police Officer Albert
Morales said.

The first robbery happened shortly before noon Tuesday at a Chase bank branch at 6471 Almaden Expressway, Morales said.

The woman went inside the bank where she approached a teller and handed a note, which demanded for cash and stated that she had a gun, Morales said.

After the employee gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash she left the scene in a black sedan, according to Morales.

The suspect robbed a U.S. Bank branch located inside a Nob Hill Foods grocery store at 6061 Snell Ave. in a similar fashion to the first one shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, Morales said.

No injuries were reported in either robbery.

Police sought the public's help in identifying the woman through surveillance photos released Thursday.

Through a follow-up investigation detectives were able to identify the suspect as Rowland, who was found around 1:15 p.m. Friday and took her into custody without incident, according to Morales.

She will be booked into Santa Clara County Jail, the spokesman said.
