Woman fends off attempted rape after meeting suspect at BART: sheriff

The search is on for a man suspected of trying to rape a woman Thursday afternoon after meeting her on a BART train.

The woman was traveling from San Francisco to the East Bay about 1 p.m., when a man started a conversation with her on the train, authorities said. 

They both got off at the Pittsburg/ Bay Point station, and shortly after, she told Contra Costa County deputies that they started walking on Bailey Road and came across a vacant field near Mims Avenue and Canal Road. 

The suspect allegedly exposed himself, physically assaulted her, and tried to take off her clothes, she told deputies.

The woman fought him off and was able to get away, deputies said. She was taken to the hospital  as a precaution.

The suspect is believed to be in his 20’s, has some facial hair, and was carrying a black messenger bag.
