Woman returns to court in wrong-way Bay Bridge crash

The suspect in a wrong-way crash on the Bay Bridge last year was back in court this week.

Thirty-three-year-old Karrie Lyn Morgan was arraigned Tuesday in San Francisco.

She faces 10 counts which include four felony charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, stealing a vehicle, and leaving the scene of an accident.

She was charged with six misdemeanors of hit and run, DUI and being an unlicensed driver.

The toxicology report showed Morgan was high on a dangerous combination of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Authorities say Morgan traveled westbound on the eastbound shoulder of the bridge for almost two and a half miles before crashing head-on into one vehicle and sideswiping another on Saturday, November 8, 2014 around 8:30 p.m.

Thirty-six-year-old Jared Petty of Richmond and his 35-year-old wife Angie were in the first car hit.

Angie suffered serious injuries. She was driving and had to be extricated from the vehicle by the jaws of life.

"She had fractured her skull, fractured both legs, fractured her right arm," said the couple's attorney, Kaitlyn Johnson. "She had torn all of the ligaments in her neck. They had to restructure her neck."

She spent more than a month in ICU, and has undergone several surgeries.

In court Tuesday, Morgan pled not guilty and her bail was set at $500,000.

She remains in custody and is due back in court Jan. 6th.
