Young father is San Jose's 12th homicide of 2016

San Jose Police are searching for the suspects behind the deadly shooting of a 25-year-old man in an east San Jose neighborhood Monday night.

Police say the shooting happened after 10:30 p.m. Monday, in the area of Quimby Road and Sand Point Drive, near Capitol Expressway.

Investigators say the victim drove to the location, got out of the car, and was shot.

Officers found him lying in the street.

Police have not released the victim's name, but family members at the scene tell KTVU that he was 25-year-old Carlos Ojeda Soto.

"Our victim is travelling down the street," said Lt. Chris Monahan, San Jose Police Department. "Somehow becomes engaged in some kind of contact with one or more suspects. The suspects produce a handgun.  The victim was shot here at the scene."

Nearby residents tell KTVU, that the shooting is both shocking and alarming.

Officers spent hours at the crime scene interviewing people in the neighborhood, and checking to see if any homeowners have surveillance cameras that might have footage of the shooting.

According to the San Jose Police, this was the city's 12th homicide of the year.

There were 30 homicides in San Jose in 2015, with 8 homicides at this time last year.
