Three UC professors win 2025 Nobel Prize in physics for research

UC Berkeley's John Clarke, professor emeritus of physics, says he thought it was a prank call, when his phone rang around Tuesday morning. It turned out to be the Nobel Prize committee in Sweden informing him he had won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Judge says removal of Sheriff Corpus can proceed, sites violation of laws

An opinion by a retired Superior Court judge late Monday cleared the way for the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors to vote to remove, or not remove, Sheriff Christina Corpus from office. If the five-person panel casts a 4/5 vote in favor of removal, it would make a first in the history of California. Corpus' attorneys say the process was flawed from the start and are asking the state attorney general to intercede.

Trump suggests no back pay for federal workers

President Donald Trump?s administration warned on Tuesday of no guaranteed back pay for federal workers during a government shutdown, reversing what has been long-standing policy for some 750,000 furloughed employees, according to a memo being circulated by the White House.
