The November elections saw Californians continue to embrace progressive leadership, but voters in one of the state’s most populous counties are so frustrated with this political direction that they voted to consider seceding and forming their own state.

A Sunnyvale engineer running for office for the first time made history last month when he won his city council race by one vote. This is the first time this has happened in Sunnyvale and after a mandatory recount, Santa Clara County certified the election last week.  

The next Richmond city councilmember will be decided Tuesday morning, but not by an election. The race, which ended in a tie, will be determined by the city clerk who will pull one of the candidate's names out of a hat.

Republican John Duarte defeated Democrat Adam Gray on Friday in a new California U.S. House district in the Central Valley farm belt that produced the closest congressional contest in the state this year.

Oakland City Councilmember Sheng Thao on Monday night issued a statement where she essentially declared victory in the city's mayoral race saying she is excited to get to work, "as Mayor in January."

San Francisco District 4 Supervisor Gordon Mar has conceded to his opponent in his bid for reelection. Mar, the incumbent candidate, made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter.

Local and federal investigators are trying to determine how roughly two dozen ballots were apparently stolen last week. The voting materials, and other mail, were found miles from where it was mailed.
