Unhealthy air across parts of the Bay Area
A thick haze settled over parts of the Bay Area Saturday. The haze layer made it difficult to see our local landmarks. A Spare the Air Alert was not issued for the weekend. Values on the Air Quality index scale still surged into the unhealthy range Saturday. The Saturday temperature profile shoes an inversion (air warming with height) in the lower levels of the atmosphere. This inversion creates a lid and traps the pollutants near the surface. A northerly flow is expected to strengthen Sunday afternoon. The forecast, issued by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, shows improvement in air quality for the second half of the weekend. There could still be some lingering haze in some neighborhoods.
More sunshine tomorrow
Clouds will greet most of the Bay Area Sunday morning. We are expecting more sunshine during the afternoon hours. Highs should range from the upper 50s to the upper 60s. Winds will be increasing from the north Monday. Gusts could approach 40 mph in the hills. Have a great Sunday! -Mark
