As utility crews worked to restore power Friday to Bay Area residents, at least 12,000 of them remained without electricity after wet weather swept across the area overnight and during the day.

Officials from PG&E said as of 3 p.m. Friday that 12,652 of its customers were without power with 4,365 of those in the North Bay and 7,925 in the East Bay. San Francisco had 83 customers without electricity and 15 in the South Bay were still waiting for their electricity to be restored.

Guidi says these sorts of outages only usually occur during the first big rain of the season

A KTVU news camera was driving along Interstate 80 in Alameda County, when they saw and recorded flashes from apparent transformer blasts, but Guidi would not confirm if the outages were also connected to those incidents.

Richmond Fire department reported that they responded to dozens of power poles on fire this morning as a result of these outages.

KTVU crews also saw multiple intersections across the entire area with non-functioning traffic signals and streetlights out as a result of the outage, however there have been no reports of any traffic collisions connected to this issue.

There's no official word on when the electricity will be restored, but the utility company said it was mobilizing extra crews to come to the area from less affected regions.

Dozens of residents took to social media to talk about the outage.
