2 Contra Costa Co. high school students charged for sexual assault

CONTRA COSTA, Calif. (KTVU) - The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office has filed sexual assault charges against two students accused of sexual assault involving a female juvenile victim. 

Detectives from the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office presented their case to the District Attorney's Office Friday morning, and the charges were filed. 

Detectives learned of the incident earlier this week which occurred late September in unincorporated Walnut Creek. 

Detectives confirmed the allegations and two students were arrested Wednesday night and booked into juvenile hall in Martinez. 

The East Bay Times first reported two students, one from De La Salle and the other from Ygnacio Valley high school, were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of rape.  KTVU on Friday confirmed that account. 

According to the report, the students, both football players, are accused of sexually assaulting a female student from Carondelet High.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office has not confirmed details on where the students involved attended school. 

Mt. Diablo Unified School District released the following statement:

"The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department is investigating an alleged assault incident involving a district high school student. The allegations are very serious, and Mt. Diablo Unified is working with the Sheriff's Department to assure a thorough and timely investigation. It is important that due process is followed, and the privacy rights of all involved are protected in order to assure the integrity of the investigation. As such, we will not be able to comment in greater detail at this time."
