2 separate crashes cause major delays on Hwy 580

Two separate traffic accidents involving big-rigs are caused delays Monday morning on Interstate Highway 580 near Livermore.
At 2:19 a.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to a report of an accident involving a big rig in the highway's westbound lanes, just east of Greenville Road, according to CHP officials.
The accident caused the big-rig to land on its left side, blocking three of the highway's lanes, CHP officials said.
At 2:33 a.m., the CHP issued a Sig-alert, closing three of the westbound lanes. Then, at 4:58 a.m., the CHP shutdown all of the highway's westbound lanes.
The big rig was carrying frozen chicken. It's taking a while to off-load the frozen chickens so the big rig can be cleared from the scene.
Around the same time, another traffic accident involving a big-rig also occurred on Interstate Highway 580, but in the eastbound lanes.
At 2:43 a.m., the CHP received a report of the second accident, in which a big-rig collided with a SUV, just east of Greenville Road, according to CHP officials.
At 4:29 a.m., CHP officials issued a Sig-alert, closing three of the highway's eastbound lanes. At 5:29 a.m., the CHP canceled the Sig-alert and reopened all of the highway's eastbound lanes.
"The California Highway Patrol is dealing with multiple accidents on Interstate 580 in both directions near Livermore. There will be extensive delays. Please make the appropriate arrangements for your commute, and
remember to drive extra carefully due to the road conditions," Livermore police said this morning in a Facebook post.
Two of the westbound lanes have reopened, while two remain closed. CHP officials did not say when the highway's westbound lanes would reopen.
