3 rescued by firefighters in Campbell apartment complex fire, residents displaced

Three people were rescued by the fire department when an apartment complex caught fire in Campbell on Tuesday, officials say.

The fire, at a two-story apartment building on the 300 block of Union Avenue, was first reported at around 6:30 p.m., according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department. 

One person had to be taken to the hospital. Officials said a cat died from the fire and a small dog was rescued.

The two-alarm fire led to the partial closure of Union Avenue, which will likely be closed through midnight. The Campbell Police Department is assisting with the flow of traffic in the area. 

As many as six units were impacted, with four of them becoming uninhabitable, officials said. 

The fire was knocked down just before 8 p.m. 

The Red Cross of Northern California is assisting displaced residents. Crews will remain at the scene of the fire through the night. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
