$32K found in restaurant, returned to family
FRESNO, Calif. - A Fresno family left a wad of cash in a Fresno restaurant and thought they would never see it again.
The Gonzalez family stopped at an Applebee's restaurant on Wednesday to get a bite to eat.
They were carrying $32,000 in cash that they accidentally left it in a booth.
Minutes after the Gonzalez's left Applebee's an unidentified server found the money in a small bag and he handed it over to a supervisor.
"He didn't want any notoriety or any positive attention because of this. He turned in the money because it was the right thing to do and he didn't want it to be anything other than exactly that. It was the right thing to do."
Applebee's manager Carrie Hellyer says $32,000 is more than a year's salary for many of their servers.
On Thursday morning, Gonzalez called police to report her money was missing and quickly learned it had been turned in.
So why was the family carrying so much money?
"We were gonna deposit it to the safe box and they told us they didn't have any available."
Gonzalez says the money is to help pay for her nursing school, possibly buy property in Mexico and send the family on a vacation.
Gonzalez says her family will drop by Applebee's to thank the server and reward him with a Christmas gift for his honesty.
