47-acre grass fire in San Jose quickly contained, mobile home and cottage burned

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) - Two buildings were destroyed in a 47-acre grass fire in East San Jose Monday morning, Cal Fire said. 

A mobile home and a small cottage were burned to the ground. No firefighters or civilians were injured, but officials said a small pet dog perished in the cottage fire. 

The fire started at about 11 a.m. off Aborn Road in the Evergreen neighborhood.

Forward progress was stopped at about 12:30 p.m. Fire retardant aircraft, fixed wing, a helicopter and ground crews from the city, county and Cal Fire all worked to battle the blaze. More than 100 firefighters were involved in the operation. 

PG&E cut power to the area when wires started arcing. 

SkyFox flew overhead showing crews battling the flames. 

Some people evacuated when asked by firefighters, but others stayed behind. 

"My neighbor told me my house is burned down, so they said. Some people said it's not burned yet. Some people said it's burned. So, we're just waiting to see what's going on," said Mimi Nguyen, a neighborhood resident.
