Babysitter accused of shaking baby to death appears in court
FAIRFIELD (BCN) - A babysitter accused of shaking an infant in her care to death earlier this month at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield appeared in court for the second time this morning, according to the Solano County District Attorney's Office.
Gina Nicole Bailey, 24, pleaded not guilty last week to child abuse causing death, Chief Deputy District Attorney John Daugherty said Wednesday.
Bailey returned to court this morning with a retained attorney and will come back again on Jan. 8 in an effort to reduce her bail.
She remains in custody on $750,000 bail, Daugherty said.
Bailey is accused of violently shaking 18-month-old Thor Thompson to death while babysitting for the boy's family on Dec. 17. She was a regular babysitter for the family and was not initially accused of a role in the baby's death.
The infant was rushed to a hospital after he suffered breathing problems in the family's home in the 100 block of Michigan Street on the Air Force base. He had to be placed on a ventilator and died at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento the next day.
After an autopsy revealed that Thor had suffered a severe internal brain injury, police determined the case was a homicide and arrested Bailey, also a resident of the Air Force base, on Dec. 22. She was booked into jail and charged.
Following next week's conference, Bailey is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in the case on Feb. 1, Daugherty said.
