COUPLE HELD IN ATTACK ON CASINO PATRON: A Port Costa man and his girlfriend have been arrested for allegedly trying to kill a 55-year-old woman they had followed home from a casino, police said today.

Barry Heisner, 44, and Darlene Marquis,45, were each arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery.

The incident began about 1 a.m. Oct. 18 when the victim was returning to her home on the 40400 block of Citrus Drive, after gambling at a South Bay casino.

As she approached her front door, she was hit in the head numerous times by what police later determined to be a flashlight, authorities said. A man then stole her purse.

The victim's husband heard screaming and briefly chase the man on foot before the attacker got into a tan-colored car with paper license plates.

The victim, whose name was withheld, was taken to a local hospital.

Police said they found surveillance video from the casino showing Heisner watching her closely and "following her around the casino floor."

When the woman left the casino, Heisner allegedly followed her out to the parking lot and got into a car that continued to tail her, police said. Video from a home near the victim's residence also showed a similar car following her and then parking a few houses away.

Investigators determined that the car was a Toyota Camry owned by Marquis.

The two were arrested in Pittsburg by the Fremont police SWAT team. Detectives found the victim's stolen property, including her wallet, ID, credit cards and purse at Marquis' home, police said.

SMELLY"SNOW ANGELS" : San Francisco police had to deal with a pretty rank situation the other day.

Officers responded to reports of someone dumping trash at Pine and Baker streets shortly after 6 p.m. Monday. They found the suspect sitting in a chair in a driveway of a home. He was surrounded by trash that he had taken from a bin at the residence.

The resident told police that the suspect had been making "snow angels" in the trash.

Officers arrested the suspect - who turned out to be a paroleee - on an outstanding felony warrant,

After being arrested, the suspect told the officers he had "scabies, bed bugs, and various open sores over his body," police said.

Police couldn't resist adding: "Hardly surprising, given his propensity to lie in piles of trash."

Incidentally, the officers' police cruiser had to taken out of service for "decontamination."
