Deadly Shooting on BART Train

KTVU-The BART station in West Oakland ran its normal weekend schedule Sunday, after closing Saturday night for a homicide investigation. "We normally use this station, but we couldn't the station last night," said a woman returning to Oakland Sunday morning from San Francisco. "We heard there was a shooting."

"There was two caps and everybody got down," a witness told KTVU Saturday night. "There was a the thought of a possibility of maybe a mass shooting." It was not a mass shooting, but one that seemed targeted at a young man sitting by the door. "The killer was purposeful," that witness recalled. "...waiting until we got to West Oakland, firing the shots, and exiting the train." He disappeared into the crowd.

The victim died on the train. Police closed the station and interviewed witnesses overnight. "I ducked. I saw people running and screaming," one man told KTVU. "So many people were shaken up and scared," another witness said.

On Sunday BART kept quiet about the investigation, except to say it was ongoing and the suspect still at large.

"I've been riding bart my whole life," Damon Moragne said as he and his family took BART home from church. "I mean it's unfortunate to hear that. Obviously, any time you have a tragedy that's a scary situation."

On Sunday the victim's name had not been released.
