Health inspectors find cockroaches at Walnut Creek ice cream shop
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KTVU) - Health inspectors shut down a Walnut Creek ice cream shop this week after discovering cockroaches - both living and dead.
Contra Costa County Health Department inspectors say they found at least 18 cockroaches at The San Francisco Creamery on Locust Street in Walnut Creek.
Health inspectors say the restaurant was closed Tuesday after the insects were found in food preparation and storage areas.
A woman who answered the phone at the creamery Wednesday said the business was open as usual.
The restaurant posted a message on its Facebook page saying in part, "We have taken the necessary sanitary solutions and have quickly resolved this issue. After a very strict health inspection this morning, we were cleared to reopen. We realize this was a major and serious issue and have addressed with staff and our professional pest control company the cleaning protocols and best practices for preventing vermin from entering the facility. We apologize because we failed our customers’ high expectations and standards. We will always strive to provide the highest quality products. Many thanks to those that are willing to give us another try and for those who don’t, we are saddened to have lost your trust but completely understand."
The restaurant was inspected after a customer claimed a cockroach ran across a table.
