I-880 in Hayward reopens after big rig crash
HAYWARD, Calif. (KTVU) - All lanes of Interstate 880 in Hayward have reopened after a big rig crash involving multiple vehicles.
The crash was reported at 3 a.m. near the A Street exit. The A Street exit is expected to remain closed until 1:30 p.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved an abandoned car on the freeway, two other cars and a truck.
The CHP says it received calls about a stalled vehicle on the side of the freeway in that area moments before the crash occurred.
Due to conflicting statements, it's unclear who hit the stalled car first.
The big-rig, which was carrying wine, ended up partially stuck on the center divide.
During the crash, the truck also knocked over one of the large freeway signs in the center divide, sending debris onto the northbound side of the freeway as well.
The driver of the big-rig was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Other people involved in the crash complained of minor aches and pains, but were not taken to the hospital.
The CHP reportedly called for a crane to be sent to the scene to assist in moving the sign.
