King City teen arrested in connection with July homicide

KING CITY, Calif. - A 15-year-old boy was arrested Monday in connection with a July homicide, according to police.
The boy, who has not been identified, as arrested and booked into Monterey County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and a gang enhancement, police said.
The teen is suspected of killing 29-year-old Michael Anthony Benavides on July 1, according to police.
Around 9:10 p.m. on July 1, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 700 block of South First Street where they found Benavides inside a car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
Benavides was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
A preliminary investigation indicated that there were three suspicious people loitering in the area before the shooting, police said.
Further investigation led police to the 15-year-old boy, who was then arrested, according to authorities.
