Man arrested after I-680 crash that killed motorcyclist
SAN RAMON, Calif. (BCN) -- A Fremont man was arrested after a multiple-vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist on southbound Interstate Highway 680 in San Ramon on Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 23-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, CHP Officer Derek Reed said.
Police are not yet releasing the man's name, pending further investigation, according to the CHP.
William Jimenez-Espinoza, a 39-year-old Martinez resident, died in the chain-reaction crash reported at 4:38 a.m. on southbound Highway 680 south of Bollinger Canyon Road, CHP officials said.
The Fremont man's Honda struck the back of a big-rig and spun out.
The disabled Honda was then struck by Jimenez-Espinoza, who was ejected from his motorcycle. A second big-rig then struck Jimenez-Espinoza, CHP officials said.
Reed said that neither of the truck drivers was injured.
The Honda driver was arrested at the scene and was booked into jail on $150,000 bail.
