Man finds forgotten lottery ticket worth more than $810K
ANTIOCH, Calif. (KTVU, BCN) - Imagine stumbling upon a forgotten lottery ticket that ended up being worth more than $810,000.
Well that's just what happened to a man who recently purchased a Powerball ticket in Antioch, according to California Lottery officials.
Jose Salazar made his lucky purchase at the Chevron gas station at 3400 Hillcrest Ave. in Antioch for the Aug. 12 Powerball drawing.
He bought $10 worth of Quick Pick tickets for the drawing that had a jackpot of $371.1 million, officials said.
Salazar put the tickets in the glove compartment of his car and forgot about them until days later when he went searching for some paperwork in his car.
That's when he came upon the forgotten tickets and decided to take them back to the Antioch gas station where he made the purchase to get them scanned.
Good thing he did. Salazar learned he had a ticket that matched five of the six winning numbers, which meant he scored a jackpot of $810,840, officials said.
According to lottery officials, Salazar has been considering retirement for some time, so with this stroke of luck, that may be just what he decides to do now.
