NorCal police chief buys homeless family car for Christmas
MARYSVILLE, Calif. - KCRA reports about a police chief who is mourning her loss and remembering her legacy.
According to the report, Marysville Police Chief Aaron Easton read about a family's predicament on Facebook.
Easton read about Tim Conn's family who is homeless. Conn desperately needed a car to get work, but he couldn't afford it.
“My family lives in the Yuba County River bottoms,” said Conn.
Conn says he was laid off, and that's when his family became homeless.
“Just can’t get a step ahead, (or) get a job," he said. "The economy is hot. And now the car is shot."
When Easton spotted a post about the Conn family on Facebook, he wanted to help.
According to the report by KCRA, Easton talked to his three kids separately. He asked if they would agree to forgo their Christmas money to help buy the Conn Family a used car.
“To their credit . . . I have some great kids and all of them said, ‘Absolutely. Let’s help this family out,’” he said.
The Conn family was shocked and grateful.
“It brings tears to my eyes when I think about it,” Conn said. “My wife, when we first met (Aaron), cried on his shoulder. We call him our guardian angel.”
“My kids are my life. And Aaron helped me provide for my kids,” he continued.
Easton said after his wife died recently, he works to show others kindness like she did.
“I think it was a good lesson for my children," he said. "I was glad they could be a part of it. They could feel a sense of pride that they helped other people out.”
