PHOTOS: Another spectacular lightning show streaks across the Bay Area

Following an amazing lightning show this week, more electrifying sights ripped through the Bay Area skies early Wednesday, providing a spectacular show in several cities predominantly in Contra Costa County.

Aaron Handy captured several pictures of lightning in Brentwood.  Dexter Senigar II said the lightning show on Vasco Road in Livermore was “blinding and terrifying.” KTVU meteorologist Steve Paulson tracked big thunderstorms in Healdsburg, Calistoga, Brentwood, Clayton and Gilroy.

In fact, the lightning was so furious in Brentwood, that it set a home on fire in in the 5400 block to Creekwood Court. There were no injuries and the home sustained some minor damage to the chimney and electronics, the homeowner said.

The National Weather Service said showers and thunderstorms would likely continue throughout the afternoon.
On Monday night, more than 1,200 lightning strikes and 7,000 flashes were reported throughout the Bay Area.

National Weather Service meteorologist Scott Rowe said the last time it rained in San Francisco in September was in 2015, but just a trace amount. ”It’s not unusual,” he said.

Normal precipitation in September in San Francisco, he said, is 17/100 of an inch.
