Police ID 2 suspect in fatal San Mateo shooting
SAN MATEO (KTVU) -- Police on Wednesday identified the two men suspected in a fatal shooting in a San Mateo parking lot, an incident that spurred a high-speed chase Tuesday evening.
Police said Alejandro DeLeon, 22, address unknown, and Luis Mercado, 20, of Hayward, have been charged with several counts, including first-degree murder, conspiracy and gun charges.
Police still have not identified the 31-year-old victim who was slain Tuesday night.
Police were called to the rear of a parking lot in the 3500 block of South El Camino Real shortly before 7 p.m. and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.
The man died at the scene, police said. And authorities asked the public to stay away from Colegrove Street and 36th Avenue while the investigation was underway. San Mateo Police Sgt. Rick Decker said Tuesday night that authorities did not know what prompted the shooting.
Officers saw a vehicle that may have been involved in the crash and California Highway Patrol troopers pursued the vehicle north on 280 to 380 and then north on 101 to San Francisco. Police said the speeds exceeded 90 miles per hour during the pursuitThe driver and passengers were taken into custody near Market and Octavia streets.
Video from the arrest shows the officers placing handcuffs on two suspects and a gray Volvo stopped at an intersection. The suspects' identities were pending.
It was not immediately clear if there were more victims. But police said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident.
