Rain tapers off for morning, returns in afternoon
OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - Although rain tapered off Thursday morning, the chance of showers remains in the forecast throughout the afternoon.
The second part of the system moves in Thursday evening. It will bring more rain, heavy at times, along with the chance of thunderstorms.
Rain could impact the early portion of the Friday morning commute, especially in the South Bay.
We'll see lighter rain Saturday, with the most rain focused in the North Bay.
A stronger system will likely arrive Sunday.
Meanwhile, the first part of the storm knocked down a large tree on Highway 116 in Guerneville on Thursday morning. The tree fell onto a car.
We have not received any reports of injuries in that incident, but the tree was blocking the roadway. It also knocked down a power line and caused in outage in the area.
There is a high surf warning in effect with hazardous rip currents. Waves could reach heights of more than 20 feet.
There is a Winter Storm Warning for the Sierra Thursday.
The storm should dump about 6 to 12” of snow at lake level with 1-2’ at higher elevations.
