Richmond to honor 100th birthday of Rosie the Riveter Eddie May Crummie

The Richmond City Council on Tuesday plans to honor the centennial birthday of "Rosie the Riveter" Ms. Eddie Mae Crummie, who turns 100 Friday.

Crummie is one of the last surviving women who went to work in Richmond's industrial home front when the male workforce shipped out to fronts in Europe and the Pacific during World War II.

She moved as a child to Richmond, where she has lived ever since.

She worked at the Kaiser Shipyards during the war and has been active with local church groups in the decades since.

City officials say Crummie also organized a domino club and continues to be an active player to this day.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at 440 Civic Center Plaza. Live video of the meeting will be available via the city's website at
