A San Francisco man has been sentenced to state prison and is required to register as a sex offender for life after sexually assaulting a woman last year, officials say.

The Napa County District attorney on Monday said Efrain Jose Obando, 26, has been sentenced to 12 years, eight months in prison as part of a plea agreement in the attack and assault that happened on the morning of January 27, 2024.

Prosecutors say Obando admitted his attack involved planning and that he was in a position of trust when he drove to his victim's place of work. When the unnamed victim arrived to work on the 900 block of Hartle Court, Obrando forced the woman into his vehicle.

Obando drove the woman to a public storage facility in South San Francisco where he attempted to rape the woman. Prosecutors say the victim was able to de-escalate the situation by telling Obando she needed to return to work in Napa. He agreed to return her to work, but stopped in Vallejo where he sexually assaulted the victim before letting her go.

One of the prosecutors from D.A. Allison Haley's office commented on this case.

"Today’s sentence ensures that Mr. Obando is held accountable for these horrific crimes and the pain he inflicted. No one should endure what this survivor went through, and I commend her bravery for coming forward. Our community is safer because of her courage, and we will continue to stand with victims and fight for justice."

Obanda pled no contest to kidnapping and other strike felonies associated with the sexual attack and sexual assault.

Per the plea agreement, Obando must comply with a 10-year protective order to stay away from the victim and her daughter. He must also pay restitution to his victim as well as court fines.
