San Mateo County supervisor wants to crack down on distracted walking

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa plans to introduce a resolution Tuesday to encourage state lawmakers to pass some sort of law - to crack down on distracted pedestrians, those who walk with their eyes glued to their phones in crosswalks.

He’s trying to pass a resolution, not a bill or a law, but a statement of support for state lawmakers to do something about this. He said he is restricted by law on what he can do at the county level.

In an interview Tuesday morning, Canepa said that this is not a "nanny law," it's a matter of public safety and especially important to deal with in the heart of tech-loving Silicon Valley.
