Traffic nightmare on Bay Bridge after epoxy spill

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU and wires) - The California Highway Patrol this morning is reporting all lanes of westbound Highway 80 on the Bay Bridge have reopened following an earlier spill.

A Sig-alert issued has been canceled.

The CHP reported the lanes were reopened around 6:45 a.m.

The incident was first reported at 3:53 a.m.

All westbound lanes of Interstate Highway 80 were closed for about an hour as crews worked to clean up the spill.

During the closure, traffic was diverted off the highway at Fremont Street.

Although the lanes have reopened it's expected to be a traffic nightmare through the morning commute.

KTVU's Sal Castaneda is warning drivers to take alternate routes. 

CHP officials told KTVU that he driver was carrying approximately 35-40 5-gallon drums of sand-based epoxy on a flatbed truck.

Several cars actually spun out when they drove over the epoxy, but there were no accidents or injuries.

Officials also confirmed that the driver has been cited for having an unsecured load and that he (or the company he works for) will be paying for the cleanup by Caltrans.
