ANTIOCH, Calif. (KTVU) - Traffic relief has arrived in the East Bay.

A portion of a corridor along Highway 4 in the Pittsburg/Antioch area has reopened after years of construction.

According to officials with the Highway 4 Project, construction on the corridor began in March of 2012.

Two new lanes of traffic opened this week on Westbound Highway 4, after the Lone Tree Way/A Street undercrossing.

The eastbound lanes to Somersville Road and three eastbound lanes to A Street/Lone Tree Way are expected to open the week of Nov. 15.

The purpose of the project is to ease traffic flow on Highway 4.

The allocated budget for the project was $48.7 million.

KTVU’s Sal Castaneda says he noticed the changes already positively impacted the Wednesday morning commute.
