Massive apartment fire near UC Riverside leaves over 100 displaced
Residents describe 'chaos' in Riverside apartment fire
Firefighters were still working to put out flames some six hours after a huge fire broke out at an apartment complex near UC Riverside, displacing more than 100 residents.
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - More than 100 residents were displaced after a fire broke out at an apartment complex near the University of California, Riverside on Friday.
What we know:
The fire was reported around 11 a.m. at the University Riverside Garden Apartments, located in the 3900 block of Iowa Avenue, between University Avenue and Everton Place. The building is located within a half-mile of UCR and off the 215 Freeway.
SkyFOX flew over the scene and showed heavy smoke and flames from the building. As of Friday evening, firefighters were still dousing the building with water.
Officials confirmed 50 units and an estimated 112 people were impacted. FOX 11's Susan Hirasuna reported at the scene that the Red Cross was assisting displaced residents, many of them UC Riverside students. The school's website says students are scheduled to have their final exams beginning next week, with commencement ceremonies scheduled from June 5–16.

Officials said at least 100 residents were displaced after a fire erupted at an apartment complex in Riverside on Friday.
No injuries have been reported, and firefighters were able to rescue and return three cats to their owners.
