Super Bowl excitement in the South Bay

While many of the major NFL events have been taking place in San Francisco, there’s also plenty going on leading up to Sunday’s game in the South Bay. In front of San Jose City Hall, on Santa Clara Street, a big stage is going up for what is being called the "Big Game Block Party" on Friday evening.

Super Bowl LX is here. The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots are set to play in the NFL's championship game at Levi's Stadium to win the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The big game is the finale to a busy week in the Bay Area that included concerts, entertainment, and a myriad of events leading up to the Super Bowl in Santa Clara.

The game kicks off Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on NBC.

The Seahawks ended the regular season 16-3 with the Patriots earning just one more win, ending at 17-3.

We'll have live updates here as the game gets started.

4:05 p.m.

From the first play of the Patriots’ opening drive, the Seahawks’ fan base made its presence felt. Seattle’s "12s", as the Seahawks’ passionate fan base is known as, made all sorts of noise at Levi’s Stadium shortly after New England took over on offense.

Typically, Seahawks fans create a difficult environment for foes at Lumen Field. Today, they’ve taken over the home of one the Seahawks’ fiercest rivals, the San Francisco 49ers.

3:49 p.m.

A promising opening drive for the Seahawks stalled out in the red zone with a Jason Myers 33-yard field goal giving Seattle a 3-0 lead.

Sam Darnold made two pinpoint throws to get Seattle moving on the opening drive. Darnold found A.J. Barner for 15 yards just beyond the reach of cornerback Marcus Jones to cross midfield. A 23-yard completion to Cooper Kupp despite tight coverage from Jones again moves Seattle to the NE 17-yard line.

However, the drive stalled out to force the field goal try. An 8-play, 51-yard drive early for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks are 11-0 this season when scoring first, and they're on top early in Santa Clara.

3:35 p.m.

The Seahawks lost the coin toss with a call of tails and the coin – flipped by Joe Montana – coming up heads.

The Patriots have deferred their chance to receive to begin the second half, with Seattle getting the opening kickoff to open Super Bowl LX.

Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported just before kickoff that wide receiver Jake Bobo broke a bone in his hand in the NFC championship victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Bobo had surgery the day after the game and will play in the Super Bowl. He was a full participant in practice all week in San Jose.

Fullback/tight end Brady Russell also injured his hand in the NFC championship and is playing for Seattle.

3 p.m.

The Bay Area's own Green Day rocked the stage for the Super Bowl pregame show.

The pregame show was a new addition this year, with the rock band helping usher generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field.

"Welcome to the Bay!" Billie Joe Armstrong, the band's lead singer, shouted at the end of their set, which also included "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "American Idiot."

2:49 p.m.

Grammy award-winning songstress and actress Coco Jones serenades the crowd with Lift Every Voice and Sing.

1:29 p.m.

Country music star Teddy Swims graces the stage where he is headlining the Super Bowl LX Tailgate Concert ahead of kickoff.

1:16 p.m.

Vallejo-native rapper LaRussell and the House Band take the stage inside Levi's Stadium for the Super Bowl LX Tailgate Concert.

12:54 p.m.

Levi’s Stadium is officially open and thousands of fans have made their way in.

12:07 p.m.

Super Bowl LX will get underway in a few more hours with the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots both hoping to add to the trophy case once Sunday is over.

Sam Darnold will lead the Seahawks into the game following a fantastic season. The Seahawks ended 2025 as the No. 1 team in the NFC. Seattle was 14-3 and defeated the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams on their way to the Super Bowl.
