Barricaded robbery suspect taken into custody by Livermore Police

LIVERMORE, Calif. -  Livermore Police have arrested a home-invasion robbery suspect, who allegedly barricaded himself in his own home. 

Law enforcement responded to the area of Wagoner Drive and Coronado Way where they say that a man in his 20s robbed a neighbor at gunpoint Tuesday morning. 

The victim was not hurt, but the suspect holed up inside his own nearby home since the incident happened around 10:45 a.m.

SWAT used gas grenades and possibly flash bangs in attempts to get the suspect to come out. An armored vehicle and crisis negotiation team were also on hand. 

Police gave the neighborhood the 'all clear' after telling people they should avoid the area at about 12:30 p.m. They wrote on Twitter at 2:30 p.m. that the SWAT team had been on scene for an hour and they were "still working toward a peaceful resolution."

Police say the suspect has had prior contact with them, has a criminal record, and ran and locked himself in his own home.  

Police used drones, phone calls into the residence, announcements from bullhorns and smoke grenades to try to get the suspect to surrender without the use of force. 

The arrest was made around 3:35 p.m. when officers along with K9 units entered the residence when 
negotiations and "chemical agents" did not coax the suspect out of the home, according to police.

Police say they would have preferred the residence come out on their own accord. 

"We don't want ourselves going into the residence and we don't want to risk his safety going into the residence. We've been asking for him to go out. So far we haven't gotten any responses from the house, or from the person inside," Lt. John Hurd said. 

Lt. Hurd said the suspect is facing home-invasion, armed robbery, and resisting arrest charges. Additional charges could be filed.
