Cal State East Bay Concord cancels commencement ceremony due to inclement weather

CONCORD, Calif. (KTVU) - Cal State East Bay announced at 1 p.m. Saturday that their Concord commencement ceremony was canceled due to weather concerns. 

University officials say the weather conditions have created an unsafe environment for graduates and guests. The ceremony will not be rescheduled.

The university expects to host the Sunday, May 19 ceremony in Hayward for the College of Business & Economics and the College of Education & Allied Studies as planned, unless weather conditions present safety issues.

Graduates who hoped to attend the Concord ceremony are invited to attend Sunday’s Hayward ceremony. Any students who were planning to attend the Concord ceremony who choose to attend Sunday's ceremony in Hayward will be recognized during the event. 

In a statement on Cal State East Bay's website, the school said in part "The commencement ceremonies are designed especially for you and your family members to join in the celebration of this momentous event in your lives. We are sure you are all very proud of your accomplishments, and we at the University are proud of you as well."

Several KTVU viewers reached out to the KTVU newsroom Saturday afternoon to voice their complaints. One caller reports family from Hawaii had flown in to attend the Concord ceremony. Another caller asks why the school hadn't planned for possible rain.
