17-year-old arrested in Fairfield Halloween store shooting
IFairfield Halloween store shooting: Alleged teen gunman arrested
A juvenile suspect is in custody after a Fairfield Halloween store mass shooting killed a pregnant mother and wounded six others, police said Monday.
FAIRFIELD, Calif. - Days after a mass shooting at a Halloween store in Fairfield left a pregnant mother of four dead and six others wounded, police announced Monday that a 17-year-old suspect was in custody.
The Fairfield Police Department could not release the teen’s name because he is a minor. Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall said officers knew the suspect’s identity shortly after the shooting but withheld the information to avoid compromising the investigation.
The teen was arrested at his home in Suisun City, police said.
Witness describes shooting scene at Fairfield Spirit Halloween store
A witness shared how she and other shoppers began running as shots were fired inside the Fairfield Spirit Halloween store Friday night. One person was killed and six others were injured.
Suspect faces murder, attempted murder charges
What we know:
The teen faces two counts of murder because the victim was pregnant, according to the district attorney's office.
The suspect also faces three counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault with a semi-automatic weapon, and multiple gun enhancements.
Marshall said the teen had previously been arrested in connection with a 2025 shooting in the parking lot of a local high school. He was charged in that case and spent several months in juvenile hall before his release.
Marshall said he hoped the community could sleep a little better knowing the suspect was off the streets but added that more needs to be done to address gun violence involving juveniles.
"It’s time for change in California," Marshall said. "I don’t know how many more people have to die at the hands of youth. Hopefully we’ve had plenty enough."
Fairfield Spirit Halloween shooting: Search underway for suspect
One person was killed and six other were injured in a shooting at a Halloween store inside the Fairfield mall Friday night. Police have not identified a suspect and ask that anyone with information contact FFPD.
What happened inside the Halloween store
The backstory:
The pop-up Halloween store at Solano Town Center was filled with costumes and decorations Friday evening as families searched for last-minute items.
That changed around 8:30 p.m. when the suspect entered the store and noticed a customer whom investigators believe was his intended target.
Police said the teen pulled out a firearm and fired multiple times, striking his intended target and six others inside the store.
Constance Hages, 31, a pregnant mother of four, was killed in the shooting. Six other males, ages 16 to 43, were wounded, police said. Two of the victims have since been released from the hospital. Police said a 19-year-old remains in critical condition on Monday.
Constance Hages, 31, was killed in a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store on October 30, 2026.
What we don't know:
Marshall could not say whether Hages was the intended target or which of the wounded victims was targeted.
Shoppers flee as gunfire erupts
What they're saying:
The gunfire sent shoppers crouching and ducking for cover. The chaotic moments were captured on video.
"When we went in there, we just heard pop, pop, pop, pop, pop," Miena Davis recalled. "Everybody froze and was like, ‘What was that?’ Then another round of the same sound went off. Then me and a bunch of shoppers just started running — just booked it."
Davis said shoppers escaped through a gate inside the store that led back into the mall.
"They managed to break it open, and so we dove underneath the little crack in the corner and just escaped from there," she said.

Moss Landing shooting leaves 2 dead, 2 injured
The Monterey County Sheriff said they are investigating the circumstances of two deaths and two injuries in a shooting that occurred shortly after midnight on Monday in a rare situation that shut down Moss State Landing Beach.
How police identified the suspect
Local perspective:
The teen fled within minutes, but authorities were able to identify him through the initial 911 call, a school resource officer and surveillance video, police said.
The school resource officer recognized the teen as a former student. Police did not say which school the teen attended or where the officer worked.
The Halloween store has since been dismantled, which is routine for the temporary store after Halloween.
Hages’ family launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover her burial expenses.
