Man dies after being set on fire in San Francisco

A 28-year-old man who died after being set on fire in a San Francisco alley was identified on Monday. 

San Francisco police said the man died Sunday morning after officers found him near the area of Russ Alley and Minna Street in the South of Market neighborhood around 4:15 a.m. Sunday.

The city's medical examiner's office later identified the victim as Eric Moren but did not have a city of residence listed for him.

Police said officers were patrolling the area when they were flagged down for assistance. They called the fire department while trying to put out the flames themselves, but Moren was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were investigating the death as suspicious.
