Police chase drivers throughout Bay Area, ending in arrests and some in injuries

There were at least three police chases over the weekend in the Bay Area, resulting in several arrests and at least six injuries.

The biggest chase occurred in San Francisco on Sunday at about 3 p.m. in the Mission District.

Car slams into parklet

What we know:

Police chased people driving an Audi Q7, whom they said wouldn't stop. During the chase, the driver of the SUV slammed into Napper Tandy's parklet at the corner of 24th Street and South Van Ness Avenue, witnesses said.

Six people were injured in the crash, including a mother and child.

Two women were arrested following that crash, but no further details were available.

It's unclear why police were chasing the SUV, which they described as "wanted."

Earlier in San Francisco, police were called to help find another "wanted" vehicle about 11 a.m. on Sunday, where the driver was heading into San Francisco from the East Bay.

Video shows the pursuit as police caught up with the car south of Market Street.

The driver sped away, video shows, eventually getting back onto the Bay Bridge.

That's when his car crashed into a police car, and he was taken into custody.

Police said no one was hurt.

On Saturday night, the California Highway Patrol said that 45-year-old Christopher Andalis sped away from Vallejo police, leading officers on a chase along Interstate 80.

Police did not state why they were chasing Andalis, but they did see him run into the San Pablo Lytton Casino, where he was eventually arrested.

Newly elected Supervisor Jackie Fielder, who represents the Mission District, said she wants to learn more about the underlying reason for the chase.

In November, voters approved a measure that allowed police to chase suspects in more circumstances.

"If it was something less than an imminent threat to someone’s life, I think it’s worth asking if it’s worth sending six people to the hospital," Fielder said.
