Police say man went on vehicle vandalism rampage, hospitalized 2 people
OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - Oakland Police Department says a man assaulted five people and hospitalized two of them just before noon in a rampage that also left five vehicles vandalized in West Oakland.
Officers say the suspect is known in the neighborhood and have yet to track him down.
Officers responded to the report of an assault with a weapon on the 1300 block of 12th Street at 11:58 a.m.
The suspect is described as a Black male in his 30s, approximately 6’7” and weighs about 270 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and was armed with what appeared to be a long metal object.
Some witnesses say the object was a baseball bat and that the area of 10th and Center were on his path of destruction. One ambulance was called to the scene.
The two adult males who were taken to a local hospital were said to have moderate and minor injuries and both are in stable condition.
"There was a guy walking down the street who was either on drugs or pissed off and he was just bashing these cars in with a baseball bat and so he came down from that side, hit about two or three cars over there, smashed my window. It was on the corner and he hit a few cars this way too. He ended up hitting a few people in the face,” said Alexandre Silveria, a vandalism victim.
