San Francisco Police Association endorses interim Chief Toney Chaplin

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) -- As the city of San Francisco nears the final stages of selecting and hiring a new police chief, the Police Officers' Association has started airing a radio ad that endorses interim Chief Toney Chaplin.

The paid spot is airing as the Police Commission was set to meet Wednesday night to reveal information about the candidates vying to be the city's next chief.

The SFPOA ad says in part: "While the Police Officers Association was disappointed in the politically forced retirement of Chief Greg Suhr, we were encouraged by the hiring of Interim Chief Toney Chaplin."

The association statement said Chaplin has earned consideration for the post.

"Chief Chaplin is a cop's cop who has worked his way up in the SF PD. The residents of our city deserve a leader of the SF PD who has talked the talk and walked the walk. Chief Toney Chaplin is the right leader at the right time."
