Livermore Unified has developed a plan to offer students from nine elementary schools classroom instruction as early as Jan. 19. The children would be split into morning and afternoon groups and attend four days a week.

Under the new red tier restrictions, bowling alleys, indoor family entertainment centers, and pools must close. Outdoor bars without food also must close. Retailers must return to just 50% capacity, shopping mall food courts to 25%, while gyms and fitness centers are set at 10%.

The state updates every Tuesday its 58 counties’ progress on a four-tier, color-coded system for reopening. The lower the cases and positivity rate, the fewer restrictions there are for businesses and certain activities in that county.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced the elimination of indoor dining and called for reduced capacity at gyms and movie theaters. The city is also pausing the reopening of additional high schools. 

The uptick in interest marks a positive sign for the country’s largest movie theater chain, which is still trying to recover after its theaters were shuttered for months to stem the spread of the coronavirus

Mayor London Breed has been vocal in pushing for campuses to take students back in person.

Authorities released a photo of the boy, who is described as being white, 3 years old, with brown hair and blue eyes, and was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and black pants with stars on them.

There have been 17,963 COVID-19 deaths in California since the start of the pandemic.

"Holiday travel is not essential travel and in some ways, you can show your love for your family and friends by not gathering this year because when you do, you put them at risk," said Dr. Matt Willis. 

Efforts are underway to keep the city’s chronically homeless warm in San Jose. One shelter had to turn people away after reaching capacity.

One San Francisco man says all he needs is a turkey to celebrate Thanksgiving with dignity. 1,000 turkeys were donated to a local food bank on Monday.
