Caltrans worker struck and killed by asphalt truck on Highway 4 in Contra Costa County

Caltrans is mourning the loss of one of its workers who was struck by an asphalt truck on Highway 4 in Martinez on Wednesday night. The agency has identified him as Mahdi Khorram, a transportation engineer-construction inspector. He started at Caltrans is 2023. He is survived by his wife and a 3-iyear-old child. Cal/OSHA is investigating this deadly incident and has up to six months to determine if there were any violations of workplace safety regulations.

Santa Rosa rally scorns Supreme Court ICE ruling

Day laborers and domestic workers held a rally and vigil Thursday night at Santa Rosa's old Courthouse Square as part of a national day of action. They demonstrated against a recent Supreme Court ruling that allows immigration officials to conduct stops without reasonable suspicion.

CDC panel recommends change to childhood vaccine schedule

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention?s vaccine advisory committee voted Thursday to make major changes to the childhood immunization schedule, recommending that children under age 4 no longer receive the combined MMRV vaccine, which protects against chickenpox, measles, mumps and rubella.
