A solemn procession took place at Highland Hospital in Oakland to honor a fallen state parole agent on Thursday night after he was shot and killed inside an Oakland parole office. Members with law enforcement agencies including Oakland Police Department, Alameda County Sheriff's Office, the California Highway Patrol and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation were at the hospital for hours.

A suspect has been detained in connection to the fatal shooting of a parole agent Thursday afternoon in Oakland. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and Governor Gavin Newsom's office identified the parole agent who was killed as 40-year-old Joshua Lemont Byrd. Police identified the suspect now in custody as Bryan Keith Hall, 48.
