California's more than 600 law enforcement agencies have widely varying policies on the use of body cameras. And some agencies don’t use them at all.

The vigil was part of a wider demonstration protesting police violence against people of color. 

Several protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement are planned Saturday around the Bay Area.

The announcement follows several high-profile officer-involved shootings in Vallejo, such as the Willie McCoy case, that has brought about raised concerns among residents and state officials. 

Vallejo's new police chief was sworn in at a packed ceremony at City Hall on Tuesday. Shawny Williams is the first African American to head the department and he said he's ready for change. 

Vallejo police and the Solano County District Attorney's office are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting that happened in the parking lot of the Valero gas station at the corner of Fairgrounds Drive and Sereno Drive on Sunday. 

The Vallejo Police Department, after years of turmoil, is getting a new police chief. Shawny Williams was chosen among five finalists, and almost 50 applicants to lead the embattled department, beset by lawsuits and community unrest. Williams is the first African American to lead the department.
