California reservoirs filling quickly from storms

The heavy rains and abundant snowfall in California in recent weeks have many people wondering what impact the storms have had on the state's reservoirs and severe drought.

California snowpack nearly 175% of average but state not out of drought yet

After several years of drought, California's snowpack was well above normal on Tuesday, but still, water officials warned that the state is not out of the woods just yet. The good news is that statewide, the snowpack is 174 percent of average for this date and California is expected to see continued rain and snow over the next seven days. Snow surveyors at Phillips Station in El Dorado County recorded 55.5 inches of snow depth and a snow water equivalent of 17.5 inches.

Rain and wind knock out power to 7200 PG&E customers in Bay Area

Powerful winds and hours of heavy rainfall drenched the Bay Area Saturday. Roadways were temporarily blocked by fallen trees in the North and South Bay, and power lines were knocked out too. At sundown, PG&E was working to restore power to 7200 Bay Area customers.

The Marin Water District has a new drought plan

Despite above normal levels in its reservoirs, Marin County is not waiting for things to get worse. The Marin water district has come up with a new updated conservation plan to help guide its customers through this drought.

Wind advisory issued in Bay Area as fire risk remains high

Officials said high winds and dry conditions will lead to greater fire risk this weekend. The windy conditions could easily knock over branches and trees that would down power lines, especially near Napa, officials said.

California is likely in for another dry winter

California is just three days into its new water year and the outlook is grim. But, note this: long term weather, anything over 10 days is more about making an educated guess than pure science. Nonetheless, water managers and weather watchers continue to make them, as their skills and technologies slowly improve them. California just capped off the driest three years in state history, experts are predicting yet another dry year.
