County officials said they are trying to free up shelter capacity as residents have been ordered to flee their homes due to the raging CZU August Lightning Complex. 

A new fire has erupted near Napa's oldest winery Thursday. The town of Yountville says the fire is in the hills along the Oakville Grade northwest of Mondavi Winery. 

Most of the activity is in Northern California, where fires have chewed through nearly 500 square miles.

Cal Fire said weather is a critical factor in the firefight including high heat, low humidity, and strong winds. 

Mike Fournier, 52, was identified by his grief-stricken family in Rancho Cucamonga.

This was the first known death connected to this week's Bay Area fires.

The SCU Lightning Complex Fire, which covers parts of five counties, has grown to 137,475 acres, Cal Fire said Thursday morning.

The combination of fires known as LNU Lightning Complex in Sonoma, Napa and Lake counties tripled on Wednesday to cover 124,100 acres by evening, when state officials said all parts were still burning out of control. 

A "Spare the Air Alert" is in effect for the San Francisco Bay Area as of Wednesday morning due to massive fires.

22 small fires have merged as one known as the CZU Fire. The fire has burned 25,000 acres with zero percent containment and at least 20 structures have been destroyed.

The SCU Lightning Complex is a group of approximately 20 fires, split in three main zones: the Canyon Zone, the Calaveras Zone, and the Deer Zone.
